Mineral Wells, WV (09/18/2012) – National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer #99 Donnie Moran goes down in the history books as being the first winner of the $3,000 to win American Dirt Racing Association (ADRA) sanctioned “Buzzy Topless Classic” on the newly re-configured 4/10 mile West Virginia Motor Speedway (WVMS).

Unchallenged by his competitors, Moran took the lead on lap one and led all thirty laps in impressive fashion. The first caution flag came out on lap seven. Under the caution, #42 Chris Garnes and #17 Zack Dohm went pitside. Garnes retired from the race, and Dohm attempted to return. Under the rules stated in the driver’s meeting, any car who goes pitside retires themself from the event. Upon his return to the track, Dohm was black flagged and disqualified and ordered to return to the pits. After several minutes of disputing the call on the front stretch with track officials, Dohm eventually left the track so the race could resume.

Moran quickly jumped out to a hefty lead never to be challenged, but positions throughout the rest of the field were hotly contested. #C4 Freddie Carpenter and #63 Doug Drown battled side-by-side for the fifth position for several laps during the first third of the race. Drown eventually passed Carpenter and also passed current ADRA championship points leader #71R Rod Conley. The second caution of the evening came out on lap 14 for a slow car in turn four.

The following restart saw Moran jump out to another commanding lead with #28 Eddie Carrier Jr., #37 Jared Hawkins, Drown and Conley in pursuit. With 7 laps to remaining, Moran encountered lap traffic, which allowed Carrier to close in on Moran. After Donnie cleared the slower lapped cars, he opened up his lead once again and went on to win the $3,000 first place prize.

The remainder of the top five; Eddie Carrier Jr. advanced 4 positions and finished in second place. #37 Jared Hawkins finished third, hard charger of the event, #63 Doug Drown finished 4th and rouding out the top five is the ADRA championship points leader #71R, Rod Conley.

“The car worked to perfection tonight. I’ve always liked West Virginia Motor Speedway, even though it’s a different configuration than what it was. It’s still West Virginia Motor Speedway.”

The unsanctioned open wheel modified A-main was won by Shade, Ohio’s  #s8 Chris Stotts.

On the opening lap, four cars tangled on the front stretch and brought out the caution flag. After the accident was cleaned up, the field returned to green with Stotts leading easily. The yellow flag came out again on lap three for #8 Tyler Carpenter. When the racing resumed, Stotts was largely unchallenged during the 20 lap  event.

On lap 13, lap traffic came into play and allowed second place #1, Kenny Johnson to narrow the lead on Stotts. In the closing laps of the 20 lap A-main. #GRS2, Deana Groves battled with #JE17, JE Stalder. There were several times where Deana tried pass Stalder on the inside, but couldn’t find the momentum to complete the pass. #s8, Chris Stotts won the event, #1 Kenny Johnson finished second, #JE17 JE Stalder finished third, #GRS2 Deana Groves finished 4th and #X Jason Montgomery rounded out the top five in fifth place.

The TSMA HotMod A-Main provided some of more competitive racing of the evening. During the first eight laps of the event, the cars sorted themselves out. The top three running cars were in car lengths of each other.  In the remaining 3 laps,  #PT109 Bill Sigmon, #18 Travis Thomas and #14 Mike Conkle were bumper to bumper battling for the lead. With two laps to go, Thomas slipped coming out of turn two and allowed Conkle to take over second place. With one lap reamaining, Conkle tried everything he could to get close enough to Sigmon so he could pass him for the lead. Conkle ran out of time as Sigmon took the checkered flag on the final event of the evening.
